F5 BigIP Password Recovery

The following details the basic procedure for performing password recovery on F5 Network's BigIP software v9.x devices.

These pre-requisites must be met;

  1. Working serial console connection to the device, (a Null Modem Cable is required)

  • Connect a PC/similar device to the BigIP serial console port, configure your terminal software parameters as follows: 19200, 8, N, 1.
  • Reboot or power on the device
  • Mount all filesystems with the mount -a command
  • Use the f5passwd command to change or reset user account passwords as necessary. The exact syntax is as follows: f5passwd username.
  • Enter reboot to reboot the device
